Creative Hair in my Creative Lair

What a frustrating time I've had the last month and a half. My broadband connection has been causing havoc. Have spent hours on the phone with the providers and nearly gave up the will to live. Doesn't help that I am a complete ninny when it comes to computers either. It still isn't sorted and I seem to have horrible spyware on too.

I had my hair done. I wanted the same kind of colouring that the model, Giselle, has (unfortunately I look nothing like Giselle). I asked if I could have a just out of bed look (or shag-hair, as my brother likes to call it) when the hairdresser came to dry it, as I usually have it straightened and fancied something a little more relaxed. She curled my hair (most painful experience, as she's not a gentle girl, I had tears in my eyes) and I looked like a madonna helmet head. Apparently it will loosen, but not really the look I was going for. I certainly don't wake up in the morning with hair like this!

I have made a little bag today. Made up the pattern as I went along. Since I found out how to put lining in a bag, I can now really go for different designs. I am rather please with it. Me thinks it will be a present for someone!!

Have finished reading a delightful book, Wild Child, by Monica Furlong. I am dangerous around books as once I start reading the rest of life goes out the window until it is read. I sometimes have to abstain from picking up a book just so I can get stuff done.

Had an order of not one but two Cloth Paper Scissor magazine. What a treat! I ordered them from artvango.co.uk. I thought I would have to subscribe for a year, which I just can't afford in one go at the mo, but they said I could have single copies, so I ordered two!! Lots to do and read over and over again. The kind of magazine to dip in and out and never get bored with!

Night Out

Last night's craft session was so much fun. Didn't get much made but it was inspiring all the same. Thanks to Annette for letting us raid her studio.

Did a lot of talking and laughing. Very raucous. Lots of conversation stoppers from me (I'm good at that). Looked at inspirational magazines like Cloth Paper Scissors and beautiful craft books. I only made these three red flowers (can't remember the proper name for them at the moment) I am embellishing an old denim jacket and these will eventually go on it.

It's been a year in us getting together like this and it was definitely worth the wait. Glad the next one is only in a month.

Lazy Weekend

Meant to get some of the house clear this weekend but I am easily distracted. Weekends always go far too fast and I find it a struggle to get enthusiastic for chores.

Started (and finished) reading Noel Streatfeild's 'Ballet Shoes'. Such a lovely story. I always rush through a book I'm enjoying and then feel bereft when it ends.

Squeezed in a car boot fair on Sunday morning, just before taking Ruan to skateboarding. Got a small portrait of a Jack Russell that looks just like our Huey. I look at him at times like this (when he's not yapping his head off at nothing) and think wow, he is so perfect!

Going to the first craft session I've set up with friends tonight. Been really looking forward to it.

Feels like Spring Today

A glorious morning. Blue sky and puffy white clouds. Went for a dog walk on a route I haven't tried before. Really peaceful. Got too hot in my coat, scarf and gloves. I love Spring!

Don't want to put people off having Canadian pancakes. I don't usually feel ill after I've had them. Think I must have been a bit liverish. Here's the recipe. It's very scrummy! I use gluten-free flour, soya milk and xylitol. But obviously you can use whatever you usually use.

Pancakes

1 1/4 Cups Flour (Very fluffy and light if you use self-raising flour)
2 Tbsp Sugar (Optional)
2 tsp Baking powder
1 Egg
1 Cup Milk
1 Tbsp Oil
Handleful or so of raisins, sultanas, currants (Optional)

Put all ingredients in a jug or bowl and whizz together with a whisk or a spoon. I usually add more milk or they just end up too thick. Heat some oil in a frying pan until good and hot then pour out the excess into a cup so a coating of oil is left. Spoon small blobs into the pan and brown on one side flip over and brown on the other. Serve with fruit or whatever does it for you, but definitely try it with lots of maple syrup. Yum!

Feeling Lumpy!

Made delicious Canadian style pancakes for breakfast. Topped them off with banana and lashings of maple syrup. Heavenly. Unfortunately they don't seem to have agreed with me as I feel urgh now.

Spent too long on the computer.

Gonna go eat something healthy to try and balance myself out. After I hope I can get my arse in gear and get creative.

Hate it when I feel abit grey and gunky inside and it's grey and gunky outside too!
